Stuart Cooper Films did a great video of the living legend and Multiple BJJ World Champion Marcelo Garcia. Marcelo is another legend to come from the Alliance Team and is my all time favourite competitor, Mr. Garcia is also a shinning example of being a classy instructor and good human being.

We had Paul and Jason go down to Kamloops to compete in the Super Cup Championships. Paul won 2 gold medals in the Blue Belt division. Paula won the gold in Gi and the Gold in No-Gi. Jason performed very well with this being his first tournament and only 4-5 month of experience in BJJ. Jason lost his first match by points, won his 2nd match by points, won his 3rd match by submission and lost his 4 match by submission.
I couldn’t be prouder of these 2 and well forward to the Alliance Team competing and winning in 2019.

Congratulations to Brock Munro, Michelle Jorgensen and Pat Rosso for earning their BJJ Blue Belts. The Blue Belt is the first coloured belt in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu adult system. It’s a great accomplishment to earn it as it takes a lot of hard work and time to earn it. Now it’s time for the 3 of them to focus on their progression towards their purple belts.
Myself and Kristian are very proud of their hard work and accomplishments.

Alliance Jiu-Jitsu Team
Once again Professor Sean McHugh did another sneaky Belt grading. This time it's for Michelle who earned her Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Michelle has come a long way since she first walked through Alliance Kelowna's doors to attend one of our Women Empowered Self-Defense Seminars. Michelle who is legally blind fell in love with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. As well as a full-time student at UBCO, Michelle put more hours per week on the mats than any other member. This intern has won her 2 gold medals and hasn't had point scored on her in competition. She also has been smoke free for 1 and half years and was able to quit cigarettes 4 days after joining our club. We're proud of you Michelle and are excited to apart of your Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey.
Eduardo Aragon from Alliance Kelowna went to Vancouver and competed at All Submission Combat Challenge and won the bronze medal. Eduardo who is a proud father of two and a busy car salesman still make time for himself to train and push his boundaries and compete with a smile on his face.

For the second year Alliance Jiu-Jitsu’s owner and head instructor Sean Mchugh was apart of the Take Back the Night March hosted by The Central Okanagan Elizebeth Fry Association. The Take Back The Night March is to help bring awareness to sexual and physical abuse towards women. Mr McHugh who is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt and an instructor for over 8 years did a short self-defence demo and warmed-up the crowd before the march.
Join us tonight from 6-8pm in downtown Kelowna for this great community event Take Back the Night with the Central Okanagan Elizabeth Fry Foundation. Our very own Professor Sean McHugh will be doing a short self-defence demonstration and then warming the crowd-up for the walk.

We're having a guess BJJ instructor Chris Desautels from Queen City Martial Arts Academy tonight(Wednesday) Aug. 15th from 7-8pm. This is open to all schools and is a FREE event and all are welcome to attend.
Chris has been training in Brazilian jiujitsu since 1999, receiving his black belt from Professor Rogerio Poggio in 2009.
Renzo Gracie is a legend in BJJ and MMA and loved all around the world. Check out this sparring sessions with his late brother Ryan Gracie. Ryan has never submitted his older brother and was hoping today would be that day.

Multi-world champion Professor Thomas Lisboa demonstrates an effective counter to an armbar defense at seminar welcoming held at our academy. Mr. Lisboa is a highly experienced instructor has taught at the Alliance Headquarters in Sao Paulo, Marcelo Garcia's Academy in new York and is now the head instructor at the Vancouver Alliance Academy.
