Here Jiu-Jitsu Way of Life is a great classic video from Stuart Cooper Films. Hear from some of the great legends in our sport.
Happy birthday to Alliance BJJ Team co-founder Fabio ‘The General” Gurgel. Fabio’s nickname “The General” name was given by Leo Negão, a former student of Gurgel who thought he had a general like demeanour, much like a general/leader amongst the Alliance team. Fabio turns 48 today and we want to thank him for all his dedication to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, not just for the Alliance team but for every BJJ practiser we own him thanks.
Fabio was on the front lines in the 90’s proving the effectiveness of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competing in the Jiu-Jitsu vs Luta Livre matches, super fight with future UFC Heavy Weight Champion Mark Kerr, UFC veteran and Multi-World BJJ Champion.
Happy Birthday Fabio!
Alliance BJJ Team co-founder and BJJ Legend Fabio Gurgel is interviewed by my old friend Stephan Kesting of GrappleArts on his The Strenuous Life Podcast.

Stuart Cooper Films did a great video of the living legend and Multiple BJJ World Champion Marcelo Garcia. Marcelo is another legend to come from the Alliance Team and is my all time favourite competitor, Mr. Garcia is also a shinning example of being a classy instructor and good human being.
Enjoy,
Sean McHugh
We had Paul and Jason go down to Kamloops to compete in the Super Cup Championships. Paul won 2 gold medals in the Blue Belt division. Paula won the gold in Gi and the Gold in No-Gi. Jason performed very well with this being his first tournament and only 4-5 month of experience in BJJ. Jason lost his first match by points, won his 2nd match by points, won his 3rd match by submission and lost his 4 match by submission.
I couldn’t be prouder of these 2 and well forward to the Alliance Team competing and winning in 2019.
Cheers,
Sean McHugh
We will be closed this Saturday Nov. 10th and Monday Nov. 12th for the Remembrance Day Long Weekend. Lets take the time to show respect and honour for those who have fallen.
All the best to you and your families,
Sean McHugh
Congratulations to Brock Munro, Michelle Jorgensen and Pat Rosso for earning their BJJ Blue Belts. The Blue Belt is the first coloured belt in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu adult system. It’s a great accomplishment to earn it as it takes a lot of hard work and time to earn it. Now it’s time for the 3 of them to focus on their progression towards their purple belts.
Myself and Kristian are very proud of their hard work and accomplishments.
Cheers,
Professor Sean McHugh
